In the midst of our wedding preparations, some traditional practices were done before our wedding. One common practice is Guo Da Li (过大礼) where the groom will send formal gifts to the bride’s family and the bride’s family will return half or similar as a token of harmony and prosperity between the two families. We held this on Saturday, 7 March 2009.

From the groom:

From the bride:

We also did the Bridal Bed (壓床 An Chuan) where traditionally, a good/auspicious date is selected to move the bridal bed into the right place. This was done on Thursday, 12 March 2009 by my parents.

There are several other practices in which we skipped due to impracticality and limited time factors. Nevertheless, these practices are slowly dissipating in the modern world and we can only do our best to accommodate them.

A week after collecting the car, I decided to take my buddies Khaw and Pang for a ride on my new set of wheels. Thank you for the good comments indeed.
We headed over to Ribs @ Oasis for lunch. Recommended by Khaw sometime back when we were at New Zealand, I happened to discover the location while sending my wife to work.

Address :
Lot 1-1, BU4, Oasis Complex
Website : http://ribs-oasis.webs.com/

Situated close to One Utama Shopping Complex, this restaurant boasts good pork menus. We had the following:

My review is that all in all was good covering both the food and environment. There is set lunch available daily for only RM10.00 but the pork dishes are served as ala carte. This is one of the few western cuisine restaurants which serve pork as a kicker, so it is recommended to all.

Starting of from the date of my last post, 16 Feb. This was the last day my Proton of about 6 years +.

As I was getting married on the following month in March, I had decided to make efforts to secure a new car due to the following purposes:

1. Change of “2-doors” car to “4-doors”. Although I like the sporty look of the Satria, its 2 doors pose a major issue where senior citizens and the disabled are finding it difficult to move in and out of the car.
2. Friggin small boot space. Put a single big luggage back and it is full!! It may look spacious at first, but the ergonomics of the Satria boot is a drawback.
3. High maintenance. After 6 years, I was already sending the car for a top overhaul, change of circuit board and change of radiator due to wear and tear. Not to mention there are already squeaks but I guess that is pretty common when you are talking about a Proton…

And the final reason is the most important. I like to have my own car as the wedding car. This gives me a certain level of self achievement and self satisfaction, not to mention Esther will be glad indeed!

Nevertheless, my Satria 1.5 GLi was the last batch of cars powered by Mitsubishi engines. It has been a great car all these years and was really sad to let it go I had the option to keep it as a second car but it is likely to provide more issues then benefits over time.

When I collected the new City, my heart was aching in pain. Even the sales guy said that I should be happy but something was just missing that evening. It is not to say that I was not happy with the new ride, but somehow letting go of an attachment seemed heavier.

Alright, enough of the crap about the old car. Yes.. I AM HAPPY with the new CITY. The reason for my choice is that I can only advise fellow drivers to test drive the car and experience it. Every individual has different tastes and requirements. Ignore all the comments you have seen on the Internet, ignore all the hits and misses, the praises and condemnations.. IGNORE all this!!! Test drive a few cars of your choice and choose the one you feel it best suits you.

Introducing… the “Transformers” model…

The acronym used for Kuala Lumpur – Ipoh Shuttle service, KLS was launched back in December 2008. This is a “guaranteed” 3 hour trip between Kuala Lumpur and Ipoh and runs 5 times daily from both ends.

I personally tried this service during Chinese New Year, to avoid the massive festive traffic jam in which I hold a personal record of 13 hours drive home instead of the normal 2 hours trip.

From a glance, the trains that were used are pretty old, with some refurbishing to the interior. There are 2 classes, namely economy and 2nd class. Economy is priced at RM10, while 2nd class is at RM18 and the difference between the two is bigger leg space and a 2 x 32″ LCD (general viewing) for the latter. Senior citizens get a whopping discount at RM6 and RM11 for the respective coaches.

The KLS service is certainly value for money, as buses these days charge a minimum of RM17.40 for a approximately 2.5 hours trip. Best thing, you can actually purchase the tickets online @ http://www.ktmb.com.my.

The train will stop at several places and it is noticeable there were alot of external refurbishing done to the railway stops along the way. There are also electric lines parallel and above the tracks, but weirdly it is not connected to the train. I am no expert in trains, but is this considered an electric train service? If it is, then I believe it should be able to achieve a faster speed… Something to ponder upon.

There is one sad thing though, the toilets are poorly maintained. It is not a big issue to me, but it is pretty disgusting for the elderly. Imagine seeing your poo going down the tracks.

The major problem about MMORPGs is that with regards to the saying, “what has a beginning has an end”, the end tends to happen too soon. I have seen and played great games out there, being one of the very first few avid Malaysian gamers to play online games since the MUD days all the way to RealMUD to MMORPGs over 14.4K modem!!

This time around, the game that will be closing its doors is Tabula Rasa.

Extract from the News page:
“To the Tabula Rasa Community,

Last November we launched what we hoped would be a ground breaking sci-fi MMO. In many ways, we think we’ve achieved that goal. Tabula Rasa has some unique features that make it fun and very different from every other MMO out there. Unfortunately, the fact is that the game hasn’t performed as expected. The development team has worked hard to improve the game since launch, but the game never achieved the player population we hoped for.

So it is with regret that we must announce that Tabula Rasa will end live service on February 28, 2009.

Before we end the service, we’ll make Tabula Rasa servers free to play starting on January 10, 2009. ”

What can I say? There goes another good game… down the drain…

Although we had plan this wedding one year ago, we noticed things can only be done towards the end of Q4. The initial stages were making reservations, bridal photography and understanding the traditional procedures… The remaining bulk of stuff follows around Q4 to date.

Many had asked why do we go through the Chinese way? My answer – regardless of one’s religion, we are still Chinese. Never ever forget your roots.

Nevertheless, we would like to invite all family and friends to our wedding site @ http://wedding.danielesther.net. Feel free to drop a message or two
